St. David's Cathedral - September, 2005

St. David's is one of our favorites. Two pilgrimages to St. David's were the equivalent of one to Rome; and three counted equally with a trip to the Holy Land. The cathedral was struck by an earthquake in 1247/1248. As a result it slopes up from the west towards the east end -- by fourteen feet. The adjoining Bishop's palace is in ruins but is an impressive reminder of how powerful the bishops were and why there was such a conflict with the state.
